Chairman Admiral the Lord Boyce GCB OBE DL Having joined the Royal Navy in 1961 Lord Boyce qualified as a submariner, and subsequently commanded two conventional submarines, a nuclear attack submarine and the Submarine Training Squadron. Later, and away from the underwater world, he commanded the frigate HMS BRILLIANT, was Director of the Naval Staff and had the role of Senior Naval Officer Middle East. He was promoted to the Flag List in 1991 and was thereafter Flag Officer Sea Training, Flag Officer Surface Flotilla, Commander-in-Chief Naval Home Command and Second Sea Lord, and Commander-in-Chief Fleet. During this period he was knighted and also held a variety of senior NATO Commands. He became First Sea Lord in 1998, Chief of the Defence Staff at the beginning of 2001 and retired in May 2003. On his retirement he was created a Life Peer and he now sits as a cross-bencher in the House of Lords. He was appointed Lord Warden and Admiral of the Cinque Ports and Constable of Dover Castle in July 2004. Admiral the Lord Boyce is a Freeman of the City of London, a Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London, a Knight of St John, and Colonel Commandant of the Special Boat Service. He is involved in a number of Charities and Associations, which includes being an Elder Brother of Trinity House, Vice Chairman (Chairman designate 2008) of the RNLI, President of St John Ambulance (London District), a Trustee of the National Maritime Museum, Patron of the Submariners’ Association and a President of the Officers Association. |
