Regional Manager South West ‘Your Future’

We all have to leave sometime; some find it harder than others. The return to civilian life after possibly 20 or in my case 30 years in the Royal Marines, could if you are not prepared, be traumatic, a culture shock.

My title has now changed to Regional Manager South West and my operations these days are slightly different, swapping my Green Beret for a White Ensign Association tie and my Bergan for a Briefcase.

My operations these days see me permanently based in the South West and responsible for most of the casework, lectures and visits that the WEA carries out in this part of the country.

With the majority of Royal Marines based in the South West it is only fitting to have a ‘Bootneck’ in this post, covering all the Royal Navy Bases and Royal Marines Units.

There are eight in total, RNAS Culdrose, RNAS Yeovilton, HMS Raleigh, HMS Drake (including 1AGRM and 30 Cdo IX Gp RM), 40 Cdo RM, 42 Cdo RM, CTCRM and CLRRM.

I visit each location at least twice a term to give a ‘Your Future’ presentation and carry out personal interviews.

The ‘Your Future’ presentation is aimed at service leavers and covers pensions, commutation, personal financial matters, investments, savings, insurance, tax and our civilian employment service, which covers all phases of employment and resettlement.

This is complimentary to MoD Resettlement Organisation and the Career Transition Partnership; I believe we at the WEA provide more than just the standard service.

We all at some stages in our lives have personal matters that could drag us down; and this in some cases could lead to a knock on effect in our careers and personal relationships.

Debt, divorce, injury, financial decisions, loans, finding a job, where to turn!

The WEA is a ‘one stop shop’, we can help you to help your people.

We are here to help and support all those still serving or veterans of the Naval Service, providing guidance about the important considerations to take into account during transition to civilian life, helping the individual make an informed choice about career direction and personal financial matters.
