Chairman
Roger Taylor commenced a career in insurance at Sun Alliance in Birmingham, with subsequent posts in Wrexham and Hong Kong and a secondment to Jardine Matheson, Horsham and the City of London. In the 1980’s he was general manager in charge of the UK business and joined the Board. Later as an executive director he took responsibility for strategic international operations before becoming Chief Executive in 1994. Following the merger to create Royal and Sun Alliance Insurance Group he became Chairman of the Board of Management. Retiring after 40 years service he was appointed to his current role as the Chairman of Amlin plc, a leading Lloyd’s based international insurance group.
He is also Chairman of Yura International and Yam Invest which are two Amsterdam based investment companies. During his career in the insurance industry he has been Chairman of the Association of British Insurers and President of the Chartered Insurance Institute. Among his many roles in the insurance industry he was Chairman of the Nuclear Insurance Pool providing cover for the nuclear power industry.
Roger Taylor is a Freeman of the City of London and a past master of the Worshipful Company of Insurers. He has also served as Chairman of a Pension Fund, School Governor and Trustee of charitable funds.
He is married with two sons and two daughters and the family home is a farm in Shropshire which is home to 450 pedigree Jersey cows.
