Celebrating 60 Years of the WEA in style – on the Royal Navy’s newest Aircraft Carrier

The White Ensign Association was founded jointly by the Royal Navy and the City of London in 1958 and was set up to provide a financial advisory service of the highest calibre for all serving and retired personnel of the Royal Navy, the Royal Marines, the Queen Alexandra’s Naval Nursing Service, the former Women’s Royal Naval Service, their respective Reserves and families.  Today The White Ensign Association offers one to one guidance and referrals in all matters of personal finance, second careers, business start-up, personal administration and any general welfare issue.

2018 saw the 60th anniversary of the White Ensign Association and we celebrated the occasion with friends old and new at a function in the Palace of Westminster back in Jul.  Never content to sit back on our laurels, we also decided that a further event of celebration should be held and, in recognition of our continued close ties with the Royal Navy, we held an evening of music and fireworks followed by dinner on board the Royal Navy’s newest Aircraft Carrier, HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH, on the 20th Mar 19.  The band of the Royal Marines provided fabulous entertainment and played in perfect time to the fireworks display so kindly provided by our President, Sir Donald Gosling.  The Council of Management of the WEA, along with around 150 guests were then treated to a superb three course meal in the Ward Room of the new ship.  It was a truly fantastic evening from start to finish and the best way to celebrate the past 60 years of the WEA.

Our thanks must go to all involved and all who attended or supported this event in any way at all.  Special thanks to the Commanding Officer of HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH, the Ship’s Company, the Band of the Royal Marines and, of course, to our very own Sir Don, to whom we owe a great deal and who has supported the Association so well over many years.  We have had a great 60 years and look forward to the next 60!
